An assembly candidate of the Action Peoples Movement (APM), Ogunbusuyi, has called on residents of Ekiti State to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of voter participation in the electoral process.
The appeal comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducts an exercise involving the display of the preliminary register of voters, verification of voter information and collection of outstanding PVCs across the state.
INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, had earlier urged registered voters who were yet to collect their cards to take advantage of the exercise, scheduled to run from October 9 to October 15, 2026.
The exercise also provides eligible voters with an opportunity to check their details on the preliminary register and report errors or omissions for correction through the appropriate electoral procedures.
Ogunbusuyi’s call highlights the role of voter awareness in encouraging residents to complete the necessary steps ahead of future elections.
Permanent Voter Cards remain an important part of Nigeria’s electoral process, and eligible citizens are encouraged to follow INEC’s official instructions on collection and verification rather than rely solely on political announcements.
The electoral commission has also emphasised the need for impartiality and transparency among officials handling the exercise, while providing access for vulnerable groups, including older people, pregnant women, nursing mothers and persons with disabilities.
Ekiti State is expected to be part of the nationwide electoral process leading to the 2027 general elections, during which voters will choose representatives for various elective offices.
The Ekiti State House of Assembly has 26 constituencies, and political parties are preparing to contest seats across the state as the next electoral cycle approaches.
For residents who are already registered but have not collected their PVCs, the ongoing collection window provides an opportunity to obtain their cards and confirm that their voter information is accurate.
Voters are advised to visit designated INEC collection points within the officially announced period and consult the commission for guidance if they encounter difficulties with their registration details or collection process.
The commission’s voter-register display also allows members of the public and relevant stakeholders to raise legitimate claims or objections concerning entries in the preliminary register, subject to the established procedures.
As political activities gradually build towards 2027, calls for voter participation are likely to remain part of public discussions, although the final conduct of elections will depend on INEC’s official timetable and applicable electoral rules.
