President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted his nomination documents for the 2027 presidential election, listing only his university qualification in the educational section of his EC9 form filed with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The documents were published by INEC in accordance with its revised timetable for the 2027 General Election, allowing members of the public to scrutinise the personal particulars and supporting credentials submitted by presidential candidates.

A review of Tinubu's EC9 form shows that he declared a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Business Administration obtained from Chicago State University, United States, in 1979.

The spaces provided on the form for primary school and secondary school qualifications were left blank.

However, the President attached copies of his Chicago State University degree certificate and his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate as supporting documents accompanying his nomination papers.

In the same form, Tinubu stated that he was born on March 29, 1952, in Lagos and listed his occupation as "Politician."

His employment history indicated that he worked at Mobil Nigeria Limited between 1983 and 1992 before serving as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.

The President also listed his current employment as the Federal Government of Nigeria from 2023 to date and declared that he had never been dismissed from the public service.

The publication also included the nomination documents of other presidential candidates seeking election in January 2027.

According to the published records, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi provided details of his educational history from primary school through university.

Obi stated that he attended St. Augustine's Primary School before proceeding to Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, where he obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC).

He also declared that he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, graduating with Second Class Honours (Lower Division).

The documents further show that Obi attached his NYSC certificate and declared that he had never been dismissed from public service.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also listed his educational qualifications beginning with his First School Leaving Certificate, West African School Certificate, and a Master of Arts in International Relations obtained in 2020.

Atiku's submission outlined his previous service in the Nigerian Customs Service as well as his tenure as Nigeria's Vice President between 1999 and 2007.

The publication of the nomination documents marks the beginning of the statutory period during which members of the public may examine the information submitted by candidates.

Under Section 33 of the Electoral Act, any individual who believes that information contained in a candidate's affidavit or supporting documents is false may institute legal proceedings with evidence challenging the declaration.

INEC said the publication forms part of its constitutional responsibility to promote transparency in Nigeria's electoral process before the commencement of campaigns.

The 2027 presidential election is scheduled to hold on January 16, 2027, with campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections expected to commence later in line with the commission's approved timetable.
