Anambra Disburses N80 Million to 80 Startups, Graduates 400 Tech Professionals

The Anambra State Government has taken another major step toward building a thriving technology ecosystem with the disbursement of N80 million to 80 startups and the graduation of about 400 tech professionals trained under its digital innovation programmes.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo announced the initiative as part of his administration’s broader vision to transform Anambra into Nigeria’s Silicon Valley, positioning the state as a leading hub for technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital skills development.

The funding support, which provides N1 million to each selected startup, is aimed at helping young entrepreneurs scale their businesses, develop innovative solutions, and contribute to economic growth within the state. The beneficiaries were drawn from various sectors, including technology, fintech, agriculture, health innovation, e-commerce, and digital services.

Speaking during the programme, Governor Soludo emphasized the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in driving economic transformation. He noted that investing in young innovators and technology-driven businesses is critical to creating jobs, attracting investments, and preparing Anambra for the future digital economy.

According to the governor, the state’s ambition is not only to produce successful startups but also to create an environment where technology companies can thrive, compete globally, and generate sustainable opportunities for residents.

In addition to the startup grants, approximately 400 young professionals successfully completed intensive technology training programmes focused on software development, data analysis, digital marketing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other in-demand digital skills.

The graduates are expected to contribute to the growing technology ecosystem within the state while also competing for remote and global employment opportunities in the digital economy.

The initiative forms part of a broader strategy by the Soludo administration to encourage youth empowerment through technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Over the past few years, governments across Nigeria have increasingly invested in digital skills programmes as the demand for technology talent continues to rise both locally and internationally.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a positive move toward addressing youth unemployment and fostering a culture of innovation. Experts argue that access to funding remains one of the biggest challenges facing startups, making grant programmes such as this an important catalyst for business growth.

The combination of startup financing and digital skills training is expected to strengthen Anambra’s position as one of Nigeria’s emerging innovation destinations. Observers believe that sustained investment in technology infrastructure, talent development, and entrepreneurial support could accelerate the state's ambition of becoming a major technology hub.

As competition among states to attract technology investments intensifies, Anambra’s latest initiative signals a strong commitment to building a knowledge-based economy powered by innovation, digital skills, and startup-driven growth.
