APC National Youth Leader Dayo Israel has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s dancing and close interaction with voters as a political strategy that helped strengthen his grassroots appeal during the Osun governorship election.
The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dayo Israel, has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s famous dancing and grassroots style as a political strength rather than a weakness, saying the approach helped the Osun governor establish an emotional connection with voters.
Israel made the assessment in an article shared on Facebook on Sunday while reflecting on the outcome of the Osun governorship election, in which Adeleke emerged victorious. He argued that political opponents who dismissed the governor because of his public performances failed to understand the electoral value of his approach.
According to the APC youth leader, Adeleke’s ability to sing, dance and interact freely with ordinary people helped make him more accessible and relatable to voters across the state.
Israel said the governor’s public personality created what he described as “emotional proximity” with grassroots voters, arguing that political communication goes beyond speeches, policies and conventional campaign strategies.
He identified Adeleke as one of the personalities who significantly shaped the election and said his connection with the people demonstrated that voters could respond strongly to candidates who understand and participate in their culture.
The APC youth leader also pointed to Adeleke’s willingness to worship publicly, interact with communities and embrace popular culture as factors that strengthened his relationship with ordinary voters.
His comments came after Adeleke won the Osun governorship election with 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Israel said the result should provide lessons for the APC as the party evaluates its campaign strategies ahead of the 2027 general election.
He cautioned against assuming that political sophistication, elite acceptance or polished public presentation automatically translates into electoral success. According to him, a politician may dominate elite discussions but struggle to connect with voters at the ward level, while another candidate who is mocked in elite circles can maintain strong loyalty among grassroots supporters.
The APC youth leader further credited music star Davido, Adeleke’s nephew, with helping to mobilise young people around the governor's political campaign.
The analysis comes amid continuing debate within political circles over the factors behind Adeleke's victory and what opposition parties can learn from the result. The Osun election has particularly attracted attention because of its implications for political strategies ahead of the 2027 elections.
Israel's comments suggest that political parties may need to pay greater attention to emotional connection, accessibility, cultural identity and grassroots engagement when developing future campaign strategies.
For Adeleke, his distinctive public personality has long been a defining feature of his political image. The latest assessment from an APC national official indicates that what some opponents regarded as entertainment or weakness may have served as an effective political communication tool among sections of the electorate.
