Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved the immediate disengagement of all directors-general of government agencies and technical advisers serving in his administration as he concludes the transition into his second term.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, in Ado-Ekiti.
Under the directive, the affected officials are expected to submit their handover notes to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro.
The latest decision comes barely a day after Oyebanji dissolved the State Executive Council as part of the administrative process marking the end of his first term.
According to the statement, the disengagement of the directors-general and technical advisers completes the process of releasing political appointees serving in the outgoing administration, apart from a few officials whose appointments have been retained because of the nature of their assignments.
Oyebode said the governor appreciated the affected officials for their support, commitment and contributions to his administration and the development of Ekiti State.
Oyebanji also wished the outgoing appointees success in their future endeavours, according to the statement.
The development follows a series of administrative changes introduced in recent weeks as the governor prepares for his second-term inauguration scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026.
On Monday, October 12, the governor dissolved the State Executive Council at a valedictory session with cabinet members at the Executive Council Chamber in the Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti.
However, the dissolution of the cabinet excluded the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, Niyi Adebayo, and the Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, who were retained in their respective positions.
The governor expressed appreciation to members of the outgoing cabinet for their service and contributions to the state, while the commissioners and special advisers also reflected on their time in the administration during the valedictory session.
The latest disengagement also follows an earlier decision announced in late September to dissolve boards, commissions and parastatals and terminate the appointments of political aides, including special assistants, senior special assistants and technical assistants.
At the time, the governor’s media office explained that the changes were part of the gradual winding down of the first-term administration ahead of the scheduled inauguration of the second term.
Some statutory institutions and officials were exempted from the earlier exercise, including specified statutory commissions and the governing councils of state-owned tertiary institutions.
Oyebanji, who was first inaugurated as governor on October 16, 2022, won re-election on June 20, 2026, and is scheduled to begin his second term on October 16.
The disengagement of the directors-general and technical advisers marks another stage in the administrative transition, with the affected officials now expected to complete the required handover process.
