Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has argued that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could have emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential election if he had supported Peter Obi instead of contesting separately.
Speaking during a television interview, Baba-Ahmed suggested that a united opposition front would have significantly altered the political dynamics of the election.
He stated that political patience and strategic alliances often determine electoral outcomes, pointing to coalition-building efforts seen in other political movements.
According to him, he would have been willing to step aside in future political arrangements if broader opposition interests required such sacrifices.
The comments come amid ongoing discussions about coalition politics and opposition realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers believe conversations around alliances will continue to intensify as major political figures position themselves for future contests.
