Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on residents of Osun State to maintain peace and participate responsibly in the August 15 governorship election, while throwing his support behind the re-election bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo during the governor's youth mobilisation campaign, the award-winning singer appealed to eligible voters to reject violence and allow the electoral process to remain peaceful and credible.

Davido, who is Governor Adeleke's nephew, described the incumbent governor as one of Osun State's best-performing leaders, citing what he described as notable achievements in governance, infrastructure development, education, and the welfare of residents during his administration.

According to the music star, the governor's performance in office provides sufficient justification for voters to renew his mandate for another term.

He urged eligible citizens to come out in large numbers on election day and exercise their constitutional right to vote, stressing that elections should be decided through the ballot box rather than intimidation, violence, or any form of electoral malpractice.

"Elections should be peaceful, and the people's votes should count," Davido said while encouraging young people to actively participate in the democratic process.

The singer also appealed to supporters of all political parties to conduct themselves responsibly before, during, and after the election, emphasizing that peace and unity remain more important than political differences.

His remarks come as political campaigns intensify ahead of the governorship election, with parties making final efforts to convince voters across the state.

The Osun governorship election is expected to attract significant national attention, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies already making preparations to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful exercise.

Political observers say endorsements from celebrities often generate public interest, particularly among young voters, although election outcomes are ultimately determined by the electorate through the voting process.

Davido has remained actively involved in political campaigns supporting Governor Adeleke since the 2022 governorship election and has consistently expressed confidence in his uncle's leadership.

As the election draws closer, stakeholders, including civil society organisations, religious leaders, and security agencies, have continued to call for peaceful conduct and respect for democratic principles.

The Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies have also assured residents that adequate measures will be put in place to safeguard lives, protect electoral materials, and maintain law and order throughout the election period.

With just days to the polls, attention is now focused on Osun State as voters prepare to choose who will govern the state for the next four years.
