The Edo State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against kidnapping following the arrest of a suspected kidnapper and the recovery of the bodies of two abducted victims in Isiukhu Community, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, police operatives exhumed the bodies after the suspect allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crime and led investigators to shallow graves where the victims had been secretly buried. The victims were reportedly murdered by their captors several weeks after they were abducted.

The discovery has sparked outrage among residents and community leaders, particularly after it emerged that the families of the victims had paid a ransom of ₦11 million in a desperate effort to secure their release. Despite receiving the payment, the kidnappers allegedly proceeded to kill the victims.

In a heartbreaking account, a surviving victim recounted the traumatic ordeal she endured while in captivity. She disclosed that she and her mother were abducted on May 9, 2026, and taken to an undisclosed location by their captors.

According to her testimony, the kidnappers later killed her mother along with other captives in her presence. The survivor described the experience as deeply traumatic, saying she witnessed acts of violence that left her emotionally devastated.

The arrest of the suspect has provided investigators with fresh leads as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle the kidnapping network believed to be operating within the area. Police authorities have launched a wider investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending other members of the gang.

Security operatives are also working to determine the full extent of the syndicate's activities and whether the group may be linked to other kidnapping incidents reported across the state in recent months.

Residents of Isiukhu Community and surrounding areas have commended the police for the arrest and recovery operation, describing it as an important step toward securing justice for the victims and their families. However, they also called on security agencies and government authorities to strengthen measures against kidnapping and violent crimes, which continue to pose serious threats to lives and livelihoods in many parts of the country.

The Edo State Police Command has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to arrest all those connected to the crime and ensure they are brought to justice.
