Political figure and real estate developer Tolu Egbeyemi has congratulated Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his inauguration for a second term, while calling for greater economic opportunities to improve the livelihoods of residents.
Egbeyemi’s message comes as Oyebanji begins another four-year tenure following his re-election in the June 2026 governorship election, giving the administration an opportunity to build on its existing programmes and address the state’s remaining development needs.
The call for greater economic opportunities places renewed attention on how government policies and investments can translate into practical benefits for households, young people, entrepreneurs, farmers and other groups across Ekiti State.
Oyebanji was sworn in alongside his deputy, Monisade Afuye, on October 16, 2026, at a ceremony in Ado-Ekiti attended by national and state political leaders, including representatives of the Federal Government.
In his inaugural address, the governor pledged to consolidate progress recorded during his first term and intensify efforts to improve the welfare of residents, acknowledging that public trust must continue to be earned through governance and service delivery.
The administration has identified job creation, agriculture, electricity, infrastructure and skills development among the priorities for the new term, with an emphasis on ensuring that public investments produce tangible improvements in people’s lives.
Economic opportunity remains an important issue for families and businesses facing the effects of rising costs, limited employment prospects and the challenges of sustaining small enterprises, making the implementation of development policies a significant test for the incoming administration.
For young people, stronger economic opportunities could include access to vocational training, digital skills, entrepreneurship support and jobs that allow them to earn sustainable incomes without having to leave their communities in search of work.
Small businesses, traders and artisans also depend on an environment that supports access to finance, reliable electricity, transport infrastructure and markets where their products and services can reach customers.
Agriculture is another sector with potential to support livelihoods across Ekiti, particularly if farmers can access improved inputs, storage facilities, processing opportunities, transportation and reliable routes to market.
Oyebanji has pledged to strengthen agricultural productivity and develop more of the value chain, including processing, packaging, storage and marketing, so that economic benefits can extend beyond the farm to businesses and households.
The governor has also promised to connect education more closely with enterprise and practical skills, a direction that could help young people prepare for changing labour-market demands and emerging business opportunities.
Infrastructure development is expected to remain part of the administration’s agenda, but its broader economic value will depend on how effectively projects support commerce, improve access to public services and reduce the difficulties faced by residents and businesses.
The state government has also highlighted the Ekiti Knowledge Zone as part of its ambition to encourage innovation, strengthen enterprise and create opportunities linked to technology and skills development.
Egbeyemi’s appeal for greater economic opportunities therefore comes at the beginning of a new governing period in which the administration has pledged to build on previous work while responding to the needs of communities across the state.
As the second term progresses, attention is likely to remain on the delivery of promised initiatives, the reach of employment and enterprise programmes, and the extent to which public investment produces measurable benefits for residents.
The challenge for the administration will be to ensure that economic development is reflected not only in completed projects and policy announcements but also in stronger livelihoods, viable businesses and wider access to opportunities across Ekiti State.
