Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has declared Friday, November 6, 2026, a work-free day to enable residents turn out in large numbers to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his official visit to the state.

The President is expected to visit Akwa Ibom on Friday for the commissioning of several infrastructure projects executed by the state government under Eno’s administration.

The governor announced the decision on Wednesday, November 4, shortly after inspecting facilities scheduled for commissioning during the presidential visit.

The declaration is intended to give civil servants and other workers an opportunity to participate in the reception of the President and his delegation.

Eno also called on residents across the state’s 31 local government areas to come out and give Tinubu a warm welcome.

Among the projects scheduled for commissioning is the new International Terminal Building at Victor Attah International Airport, alongside an Airport Hospital and an Aviation Village.

Other projects include the 14.5-kilometre Nsit Atai–Okobo Road, also known as the Airport–Okopedi Road, Ring Road 3, the Command and Control Centre, the AkwaGIS Building and the ARISE Palm Resort.

The projects cover key areas of infrastructure development, including aviation, transportation, healthcare, security technology, land administration and tourism.

According to reports on the governor’s inspection tour, the exercise was aimed at assessing the level of preparedness and ensuring that the facilities were ready ahead of the President’s arrival.

The governor has described the visit as an important occasion for the state, urging residents to demonstrate the hospitality for which Akwa Ibom is known.

Residents have also been asked to assemble at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium by 10 a.m. for the presidential reception.

Tinubu’s visit forms part of his engagements outside Abuja and will provide an opportunity for the state government to present some of its completed projects to the President.

The work-free day applies to Friday, November 6, as Akwa Ibom prepares to host the President and showcase infrastructure investments across the state.
