Former Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Bauchi State to former governor Mohammed Abubakar ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
According to the officially announced results, Mohammed Abubakar secured 57,517 votes to emerge as the APC candidate, while Tuggar came second with 26,001 votes. Other aspirants in the race included Nura Manu Soro, Bala Wunti, Kabir Ma’aji, Baba Abubakar Suleiman, and Yakubu Abdullahi.
The results were announced by John Abang, chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Election Committee in Bauchi State.
Tuggar had earlier resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet to contest in the APC primary following the directive requiring political appointees seeking elective office to step down before party primaries.
Mohammed Abubakar previously served as governor of Bauchi State from 2015 to 2019 and will now represent the APC in the 2027 governorship election.
