The Federal Government has committed more than ₦10.5 billion to its newly launched Digital Training Academy (DTA), a major skills development programme designed to equip 32,000 Nigerians with globally competitive digital and professional skills.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during the official launch of the academy in Abuja on Monday, September 14, 2026.
According to the minister, the initiative is aimed at bridging Nigeria’s digital skills gap, improving employability and helping more Nigerians compete for opportunities in the global digital economy.
The programme is being implemented under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), with training delivered through global learning platforms including Coursera and Pluralsight.
Beneficiaries will have access to training in several high-demand areas, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, cybersecurity, cloud computing, software development, IT automation, fintech, product management, Natural Language Processing (NLP), quantum computing and agentic AI.
The government says the programme will provide free learning opportunities, while training centres equipped with internet connectivity and learning devices will be available across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
This means Nigerians who do not have personal computers or reliable internet access can still participate through the designated centres.
Who Can Apply?
The official DTA FAQ states that the programme is open to Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above, including students, job seekers and working professionals. Most training tracks are expected to run for between eight and 12 weeks, depending on the selected programme.

The official registration process involves creating an account with a National Identification Number (NIN) and phone number, completing a profile with background and career information, taking a pre-assessment and then beginning training after receiving the assessment result.
The programme is expected to award certificates to eligible participants who successfully complete their training and meet the required assessment criteria.
Opening date: August 17, 2026
Closing date: No official closing date has been published on the DTA website as of September 15, 2026. Applicants are therefore advised to register early.
