The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, as part of efforts to honour workers across the country.
In his message, the minister congratulated Nigerian workers for their dedication and contributions to national growth and development.
He also acknowledged the role of the workforce in sustaining key sectors of the economy, despite ongoing challenges.
Workers’ Day, celebrated globally, is dedicated to recognising the efforts and achievements of labour across various industries.
The observance is expected to include events and activities organised by labour unions and institutions nationwide.
