The Federal Government has opened the Digital Training Academy (DTA) portal, giving Nigerians an opportunity to acquire free digital and professional skills designed to improve employability and prepare participants for the growing digital economy.
The programme is being implemented as part of the Federal Government's broader National Skilling Project, with training delivered through a partnership with global online learning platform Coursera. The official DTA platform says the government is providing 32,000 free learning licences to Nigerians.
The initiative is designed to bridge Nigeria's digital skills gap and give participants access to industry-relevant training without tuition costs. According to the official Digital Training Academy portal, participants can access training in several high-demand areas, including software development, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, IT automation, artificial intelligence and machine learning, connected technologies and financial technology. Other areas include natural language processing, parallel computing and quantum computing.
The programme is particularly relevant to young Nigerians looking to develop skills that can improve their chances of securing employment, starting businesses or accessing opportunities in the global digital economy. The official DTA platform outlines a simple registration process for interested Nigerians.
Applicants are required to create an account using their National Identification Number (NIN) and phone number before completing their profiles.
Participants will then provide information about their background, interests and career goals. After completing their profiles, applicants are expected to take a pre-assessment designed to determine their existing skill level and help place them on suitable learning paths.
Those who complete the assessment can proceed to begin their free training through the platform. The Federal Government says the initiative is intended to ensure that Nigerians can participate in the digital economy regardless of their background or financial circumstances.
The programme also seeks to address the challenge faced by Nigerians who may not have access to computers or reliable learning facilities. According to the official platform, training centres have been established across the country with internet access and learning devices to support participation.
The Digital Training Academy builds on the Federal Government's wider push to expand digital skills development. Earlier in 2026, the government announced the programme in partnership with Coursera, with the initial plan reported as funding tens of thousands of digital-skills licences for Nigerian youths.
