The Federal Government has begun reconstruction of a major road in Ekiti State, a move expected to ease transportation challenges and improve daily life for commuters, traders, and businesses across the state.

The project focuses on the Ado–Itawure Road, a key route that connects Ado-Ekiti to neighbouring communities and extends toward Osun State. For years, the road has been a critical link for movement, but its poor condition has slowed travel and affected economic activities in the area.

Construction work officially began on March 23, 2026, with early progress already visible around parts of the road. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months, bringing long-awaited relief to road users.

The contract has been awarded to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Ltd, which is responsible for delivering the project to standard.

For many residents, this development goes beyond infrastructure—it directly impacts everyday life. Traders who transport goods between towns, commuters who travel daily for work, and transport operators are among those expected to benefit from improved road conditions.

Poor road networks have long contributed to increased transport costs, vehicle damage, and longer travel times. With reconstruction now underway, these challenges are expected to reduce significantly once the project is completed.

According to the Ekiti State Government, the improved road will strengthen economic activities by making it easier to move goods and services within the state and across regional boundaries. This is particularly important for communities that rely heavily on road transport for trade and access to markets.

Better connectivity between Ekiti and neighbouring states is also expected to open up more opportunities for small businesses, farmers, and local entrepreneurs who depend on efficient transport systems to grow their operations.

Beyond easing movement, the project is also expected to create economic opportunities during and after construction. Local workers may benefit from job opportunities linked to the project, while improved infrastructure could attract new investments into the region.

The road, which begins from Fajuyi Park in Ado-Ekiti and stretches toward the Osun boundary, serves as a major corridor for both local and interstate travel. Its reconstruction is seen as a step toward addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps in the state.

As work progresses, residents and stakeholders will be watching closely to ensure the project is completed on schedule and delivers the expected benefits.
