Nigerians seeking to benefit from the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 cash relief have been advised to verify their eligibility through official channels, as fintech company OPay warns customers against fraudsters attempting to exploit the programme.
The company explained that eligible customers would receive a pop-up notification on the homepage of their OPay mobile application, directing them to follow the necessary steps to access the support.
In a message shared on its official X account on Tuesday, November 3, OPay clarified that customers who cannot see the notification on their app are not eligible for the intervention.
The fintech company also stressed that it does not determine who qualifies for the government support, directing customers who need further clarification to contact the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) helpline on 0700-022-2222.
How to check eligibility through OPay
Customers can check for the relief notification on their OPay app homepage. The company also provided the USSD code 95520# as another channel for checking eligibility.
Those who receive the notification should follow the instructions provided through the official platform.
OPay warned that it would never request customers' personal identification numbers (PINs) or one-time passwords (OTPs) to process NERSI payments.
It advised Nigerians not to pay agents promising to secure access to the funds or click on suspicious links circulating on social media and messaging platforms.
Who qualifies for the ₦50,000 support?
The Federal Government says beneficiaries are selected from verified national identity records and the National Social Register, with the intervention targeting poor and vulnerable households.
The programme is being implemented through approved financial service providers, including OPay, ALAT by Wema, MoMo PSB, NairaGram and Moniepoint.
According to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, selected beneficiaries receive an official SMS from their payment provider and must give consent before the funds are credited to their mobile wallets.
The government has also warned that Nigerians do not need to submit applications, pay registration fees or use agents to secure a place on the beneficiary list.
Other approved channels
Customers using participating financial service providers can check through the following USSD channels:
OPay: 95520#
ALAT by Wema: 94523#
MoMo PSB: 6710#
NairaGram: 72600#
Moniepoint: 557327#
The ministry's official helpline is 0700-022-2222 for enquiries and complaints.
The government has urged Nigerians to protect their financial information and ignore anyone demanding money or confidential banking details in exchange for access to the relief.
As interest in the intervention grows, beneficiaries are advised to rely only on official provider notifications and government information rather than unverified messages promising guaranteed payments.
