The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of its former Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, describing his passing as a significant loss to the organisation, the road safety community and Nigeria.

In a condolence message issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, the current Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, paid tribute to Biu’s years of service, highlighting his dedication, discipline and commitment to public service.

Mohammed said Biu’s contributions to road safety administration and the development of the organisation would remain part of the FRSC’s institutional history.

Biu, who died at the age of 62, served as the seventh substantive Corps Marshal of the FRSC from July 2022 to May 2024, having spent decades working within the organisation.

His death was reported on Sunday, October 11, with family sources stating that he died at a hospital in Abuja.

According to reports, Biu was born in 1964 in Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna State, and built a career in public service after joining the FRSC in 1988.

Over the years, he rose through the ranks and held several positions, including Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Finance and Accounts in 2014 and Deputy Corps Marshal in 2016.

Before becoming the head of the organisation, he served as Deputy Corps Marshal responsible for Finance and Accounts at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja, where he oversaw financial administration.

His appointment as acting Corps Marshal came in July 2022 following the retirement of his predecessor, Boboye Oyeyemi, after completing his tenure.

Biu subsequently served as the organisation’s substantive head, overseeing its operations during a period when road safety enforcement, operational efficiency and institutional development remained central to the agency’s responsibilities.

During his tenure, the FRSC continued its work in promoting safer roads, enforcing traffic regulations, educating motorists and strengthening collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Mohammed described the late officer as a seasoned professional who devoted a substantial part of his life to serving humanity and advancing road safety in Nigeria.

On behalf of the organisation’s management and workforce, he extended condolences to Biu’s immediate family, friends, associates and everyone affected by his death.

The Corps Marshal also prayed for the family to receive strength during the difficult period and asked Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Paradise.

Biu’s professional background also included academic and financial qualifications that supported his work in public administration.

He obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and was a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of National Accountants.

His experience in financial management and institutional administration formed part of his professional journey before and during his leadership of the road safety agency.

Beyond his official responsibilities, Biu held the traditional title of Jagaban Sabon Gari and was survived by his wife and five children, according to family information reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

His family was expected to transport his remains from Abuja to Chikaji, Sabon Gari, Zaria, for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The FRSC’s tribute adds to the expressions of condolence following the death of a former leader whose career spanned nearly four decades within the organisation.

The agency has continued to acknowledge the contributions of former Corps Marshals as part of its broader institutional history, with each leadership period contributing to the evolution of road safety administration in the country.

As colleagues, family members and associates mourn Biu, the FRSC has emphasised that his years of service and commitment to national road safety will not be forgotten.
