Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has unveiled specialized project inspection kits designed to standardize field monitoring and enhance professional accountability across public infrastructure projects in the state.
Unveiled on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in Lokoja, the initiative—developed by the Kogi State Ministry of Works—aims to distinguish government supervision teams from contractors, enforce safety protocols, and ensure strict adherence to engineering specifications on project sites.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Governor Ododo stressed that technical competence, effective supervision, and transparency are essential to guaranteeing value for public funds and delivering durable civil infrastructure.
Addressing state engineers, project supervisors, and technical personnel, Governor Ododo outlined clear operational guidelines for public project execution:
The governor urged technical teams to offer objective, professional advice to political officeholders whenever superior engineering or cost-effective execution methods are identified.
He emphasized mutual respect between administrative heads and project supervisors, reiterating that engineering standards must never be compromised for political expediency. The newly introduced kits feature high-visibility reflective jackets, branded safety helmets, and technical field accessories designed to enhance the physical safety and professional identification of state inspection teams.
Providing details on the initiative, the Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Salami Deedat, explained that the inspection kits were conceptualized to establish a uniform identity for government monitoring teams during field visits.
PROJECT INSPECTION KITS — CORE OBJECTIVES 1. Distinguish state monitoring personnel from contractor staff on site. 2. Enforce standard workplace health, safety, and environment (HSE) protocols. 3. Streamline real-time reporting on project progress across all 21 LGAs. 4. Prevent unauthorized site access and unapproved engineering modifications.
The Commissioner urged all Ministry personnel to utilize the kits responsibly and maintain high ethical standards while overseeing public works, reaffirming that the Ministry of Works will maintain rigorous monitoring across active project locations.
