The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has provided fresh guidance on how Nigerians can report suspected fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, and other economic and financial crimes through its official online petition portal.
The anti-graft agency said the online platform is designed to make it easier for members of the public to submit complaints, provide supporting evidence, and assist the Commission in investigating financial crimes across the country.
According to the EFCC, anyone wishing to file a petition must first complete an online form with accurate personal information before providing details of the alleged offence.
Information Required
Applicants are expected to provide the following details:
Full name.
Residential address.
Email address.
Phone number.
Occupation.
Nationality.
Petitioners must also provide information about the person, company, or organization being reported. This includes the name of the suspect, where known, and a clear description of the alleged financial crime or fraudulent activity.
The EFCC encourages applicants to include all relevant facts, dates, locations, transaction details, and any supporting documents that may assist investigators. Evidence such as bank statements, payment receipts, contracts, emails, screenshots, photographs, videos, or other relevant materials can be uploaded through the portal where applicable.
The Commission stressed that providing accurate and verifiable information is essential to ensuring that petitions are processed efficiently and that investigations can commence without unnecessary delays.
How to Submit a Petition
To report a suspected financial crime:
Visit the official EFCC website.
Navigate to the "Report a Crime" or "Submit a Petition" section.
Complete the online petition form with your personal details.
Enter information about the alleged offence and the individual or organization involved.
Attach supporting evidence where available.
Review the information carefully before submitting the petition.
The EFCC noted that once a petition is successfully submitted, it will be reviewed by the appropriate department for assessment and possible investigation.
The Commission also advised Nigerians to avoid submitting false, malicious, or misleading petitions, warning that false allegations may attract legal consequences. Citizens are encouraged to report only genuine cases supported by credible information.
The online reporting system forms part of the EFCC's efforts to improve public access to its services and strengthen the fight against corruption, internet fraud, money laundering, advance fee fraud, and other financial crimes.
By simplifying the petition process, the Commission hopes to encourage greater public participation in exposing economic crimes while promoting transparency, accountability, and justice across Nigeria.
Interested individuals can submit petitions through the EFCC's official portal at https://www.efcc.gov.ng under the petition/reporting section.
