The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has questioned Toyin Okoro, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ise-Orun/Ikere/Ekiti South-West Federal Constituency, over allegations bordering on fraud and breaches of public service rules.
Okoro, a former Senior Legislative Aide to House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, appeared at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, September 17, 2026, following a formal invitation from the anti-corruption agency.
According to TheCable, the invitation was dated September 7 and signed by Oshinyemi Oluwaseun, Head of the ICPC Special Duty Team, on behalf of the commission’s chairman.
Okoro reportedly arrived at the commission’s headquarters at about 2pm and was taken into an interrogation room around 2:40pm after spending approximately 30 minutes at the reception.
Investigators questioned him for more than two hours before he was released on bail at about 5pm and directed to return at a later date for further questioning.
The ICPC invitation cited Sections 28 and 40 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 and informed Okoro that he could appear with a lawyer or another person of his choice.
At the centre of the investigation is an allegation that Okoro operated a private company while serving as a Senior Legislative Aide at the National Assembly, which the commission is examining in relation to applicable public service rules.
The anti-graft agency is also reportedly examining claims that Okoro used his position as a public servant to facilitate or secure government contracts for the private company.
The government institutions mentioned in connection with the alleged contracts include the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure.
Another aspect of the investigation concerns allegations that Okoro continued receiving salaries and allowances from the National Assembly while allegedly retaining beneficial ownership of the private company.
Investigators are also reportedly examining claims that a resignation letter connected to the company was falsified or backdated after questions were raised about Okoro’s involvement with the business.
The ICPC is further looking into allegations concerning information contained in documents Okoro submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, with the claims reportedly involving differences between those submissions and records held by the Corporate Affairs Commission and the National Assembly.
Okoro’s appearance before the ICPC comes as he prepares to contest the 2027 House of Representatives election on the APC platform for the federal constituency covering Ise-Orun, Ikere and Ekiti South-West.
He emerged as the APC candidate during the party’s primary election earlier in 2026 and subsequently appeared on the party’s candidate list for the constituency.
The investigation therefore places the allegations against Okoro in the context of an upcoming electoral contest, although the ICPC questioning itself does not establish that he committed any offence.
The allegations remain subject to investigation, and no court finding of guilt has been reported against the APC candidate in connection with the matters being examined.
As of the latest reports, Okoro had not publicly issued a detailed response to the allegations, while the ICPC was expected to continue its investigation and invite him for further questioning.
His release on bail means the investigation remains ongoing rather than concluded, with investigators expected to examine relevant corporate, National Assembly and electoral records as part of the process.
The development adds a new layer to the political contest in the Ekiti federal constituency as parties and candidates prepare for the 2027 general elections.
