INEC to Hold Stakeholders’ Meeting as 2027 Elections Enter 100-Day Countdown
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will on Tuesday, October 6, hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference in Abuja as preparations for the 2027 general elections enter the final 100-day countdown.
The meeting is expected to provide Nigerians and key stakeholders with an update on the Commission’s level of preparedness ahead of the elections.
According to INEC, the briefing will focus on important areas of the electoral process, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being put in place to safeguard the integrity of the elections.
The event will be addressed by INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
INEC said the national stakeholders’ meeting is part of its efforts to strengthen transparency, public communication and collaboration among the different groups involved in the conduct and security of the elections.
Political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps and development partners are expected to participate.
Civil society organisations, election observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected at the meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC), Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
INEC said attendance at the venue will be strictly by invitation. Accredited journalists and invited guests are expected to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
The Commission also said the proceedings will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms, allowing Nigerians who are not physically present to follow the discussions.
The engagement comes as political parties and other stakeholders intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
INEC’s Tuesday briefing is expected to offer further insight into the Commission’s progress on administrative and logistical preparations, as well as other issues that could affect the smooth conduct of the polls.
With the election countdown reaching the 100-day mark, attention will be focused on what INEC says about its readiness and the remaining tasks ahead of Nigerians going to the polls.
The Commission has also continued to provide public information through its official channels as part of efforts to keep voters and other stakeholders informed about the electoral process.
