INEC Warns Nigerians Against Fake September–October Voter Registration Website
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians to be cautious of a fake website circulating online and claiming to offer voter registration services for September and October.
The warning comes as interest in voter registration and other electoral activities increases ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
INEC has repeatedly urged Nigerians to rely on the Commission’s official platforms for information about voter registration, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), polling units and other electoral services.
The Commission has also warned against misinformation and misleading information circulating online, stressing that its official website and verified digital channels remain the authoritative sources for updates on electoral activities.
The issue is particularly important because fake registration websites can potentially be used to collect sensitive personal information from unsuspecting Nigerians.
Members of the public are therefore advised not to enter personal details, identification information or other sensitive data on websites claiming to be associated with INEC unless the platform has been confirmed through the Commission’s official channels.
INEC’s voter registration information has previously directed eligible Nigerians to its official Continuous Voter Registration platform. The Commission’s published CVR materials identify cvr.inec.gov.ng and cvr.inecnigeria.org as official online registration addresses for the relevant registration exercise.
The electoral body has also made voter services available through its official website, where Nigerians can access information relating to voter registration, polling units and other election-related services.
With election-related activities increasingly moving online, Nigerians are being encouraged to verify information before clicking registration links shared through WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Telegram and other social media platforms.
The warning is also significant because INEC has previously raised concerns about misinformation and disinformation affecting the electoral process. In February 2026, the Commission urged the media and members of the public to help counter false information and rely on its official communication channels.
Anyone who encounters a suspicious website claiming to be an INEC registration platform should avoid submitting personal information and verify the claim directly through INEC.
The Commission's Citizens Contact Centre provides a channel for enquiries and complaints, with official contact numbers including 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) and 4632.
As preparations for the 2027 elections continue, Nigerians are advised to confirm voter-registration announcements directly from INEC rather than relying on forwarded messages or unverified websites.
Using only verified electoral platforms can help protect citizens from possible fraud, identity theft and misinformation while ensuring that genuine electoral information reaches eligible voters
