Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has distributed 31 operational vehicles to security and law enforcement agencies operating across the state as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
The governor announced the intervention during a ceremony held at the Government House in Abakaliki, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property through sustained investment in security infrastructure.
The vehicles, largely operational patrol units, were handed over to various security formations to improve mobility, surveillance, and rapid response to security threats across the state.
Nwifuru stated that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening security operations in all thirteen local government areas of Ebonyi State.
According to the governor, security remains one of the most important responsibilities of government and requires continuous support through modern equipment and logistics.
He explained that the newly distributed vehicles would complement existing efforts by security agencies to combat crime and maintain peace in communities across the state.
Beyond the vehicles, Nwifuru disclosed that his administration has invested in advanced security technologies, including drones and digital surveillance equipment designed to improve intelligence gathering and operational effectiveness.
The governor noted that significant financial resources have been committed to strengthening the state’s security architecture since the beginning of his administration.
He commended security personnel for their dedication and professionalism, describing their efforts in maintaining relative peace across Ebonyi as commendable.
Nwifuru specifically praised the collaboration among various security institutions, which he said has contributed significantly to the reduction of security threats in the state.
Among the beneficiaries of the operational vehicles are the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigerian Correctional Service, and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The governor urged the agencies to continue working together in the interest of public safety and community stability.
He also reminded security personnel to remain professional and impartial as political activities ahead of future elections begin to gather momentum.
According to him, election periods often come with accusations and political pressure, making neutrality and adherence to constitutional duties even more important.
Nwifuru recalled that Ebonyi faced several security challenges when he assumed office in 2023 but said improvements recorded since then have been driven by cooperation among security agencies and support from residents.
He further praised citizens, particularly young people, for supporting government initiatives aimed at promoting peace and development across the state.
