Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been invested as the Patron of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals in Kogi State, reaffirming the state's commitment to promoting road safety and supporting the activities of the nation's road safety agency.
The investiture ceremony, held in Lokoja, brought together officials of the FRSC, government representatives, and members of the Special Marshals to celebrate the growing partnership between the Kogi State Government and the Corps.
The honour recognizes Governor Ododo's contributions to improving transportation safety and strengthening initiatives aimed at reducing road crashes across the state.
As part of the ceremony, Governor Ododo donated 10 electric patrol motorcycles to the FRSC to enhance traffic management, law enforcement, and emergency response operations across Kogi State.
The motorcycles are expected to improve the Corps' ability to respond quickly to road traffic incidents, monitor highways more effectively, and enforce compliance with traffic regulations, particularly in areas that are difficult to access with conventional patrol vehicles.
Speaking during the event, FRSC officials commended the governor for his continued support, describing the donation as a significant investment in public safety. They noted that the additional patrol motorcycles would improve operational efficiency and strengthen efforts to protect motorists and other road users.
The introduction of electric patrol motorcycles also aligns with the growing adoption of environmentally friendly technologies in public service. Compared to traditional fuel-powered motorcycles, electric bikes produce lower emissions, require less maintenance, and offer a more sustainable option for daily patrol operations.
Governor Ododo reiterated his administration's commitment to supporting institutions responsible for protecting lives and property. He emphasized that road safety remains a shared responsibility and called on motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid dangerous driving practices, and cooperate with FRSC personnel.
Kogi State occupies a strategic position in Nigeria's road network, serving as a major transit corridor linking the northern and southern parts of the country. As a result, the state experiences heavy vehicular movement throughout the year, making effective traffic management and rapid emergency response essential.
The collaboration between the Kogi State Government and the FRSC is expected to further strengthen public awareness campaigns, improve road safety enforcement, and reduce the incidence of road traffic crashes across the state.
