Kylian Mbappé has reached another major milestone in his already impressive career after moving into fifth place on the UEFA Champions League’s all-time goalscorers list.
The Real Madrid forward scored his 71st Champions League goal during Madrid’s 2–1 victory over Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. His goal saw him draw level with Real Madrid legend Raúl, who also finished his Champions League career with 71 goals.
What makes Mbappé’s achievement even more remarkable is the speed at which he has reached the milestone. The French forward needed only 99 Champions League appearances to score 71 goals, while Raúl required 142 matches to reach the same tally.
Mbappé opened the scoring against Inter after finding space inside the penalty area and finishing to give Real Madrid the advantage.
Federico Valverde later doubled the hosts’ lead before Carlos Augusto pulled one goal back for Inter.
Real Madrid eventually held on for a 2–1 victory, giving José Mourinho’s side a winning start to their Champions League campaign.
The 27-year-old’s rise up the Champions League scoring chart highlights his remarkable consistency in Europe’s biggest club competition. Mbappé was also the competition’s leading scorer during the 2025/26 campaign after finishing with 15 goals.
Mbappé now sits behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema on the all-time list, with Raúl alongside him on 71 goals.
With plenty of Champions League football still ahead of him, Mbappé has a realistic opportunity to climb even higher on the historic scoring chart. His next target will be to move clear of Raúl before attempting to challenge the higher-ranked legends ahead of him.
For Real Madrid, Mbappé’s continued goalscoring form could prove crucial as the Spanish giants look to compete for another European title.
The French superstar’s latest achievement further strengthens his reputation as one of the most prolific goalscorers of his generation and one of the leading figures in modern Champions League football.
