The Lagos State Government has sealed off a public toilet facility following confirmed cases of illegal wastewater discharge and environmental pollution.
According to Punch Newspapers, the enforcement action was carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) after investigations revealed that the facility was releasing untreated sewage into surrounding drains, creating a public health and environmental hazard.
The agency stated that the activity violated environmental regulations and posed serious risks, including contamination of public spaces and exposure of residents to preventable diseases.
Officials described the act as a breach of the state’s environmental protection laws.
The enforcement is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to clamp down on facilities that engage in indiscriminate discharge of wastewater, especially public toilets and commercial sanitation points operating without proper treatment systems.
Authorities reiterated that Lagos maintains a zero-tolerance policy for environmental pollution, warning that offenders will face sealing, fines, and possible prosecution under state environmental laws.
Residents were also advised to adopt proper sanitation practices and report environmental violations to relevant agencies to prevent further degradation of public health conditions across the state.
