A 55-year-old motorist has escaped without injury after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos State, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged.
The incident occurred on Friday, October 9, 2026, as the train was travelling towards Agege. The collision involved a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
In a statement, LASTMA said the impact left the vehicle almost completely destroyed, but the driver survived without any reported injury. No casualty was recorded at the scene.
The agency said its officials, working alongside security personnel and emergency responders, helped rescue the motorist and remove the wrecked vehicle from the railway track.
The operation cleared the obstruction and allowed the train to continue its journey towards Agege.
Although the railway track was cleared, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis as officials worked to manage the movement of vehicles in the area.
LASTMA said the damaged Honda was handed over to security personnel for investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The agency has not announced what caused the vehicle and train to collide. Investigators are expected to establish the sequence of events leading to the incident.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s personnel and security officials for their response, noting the importance of cooperation during emergencies involving railway operations and adjoining roads.
Following the incident, LASTMA urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings and designated train corridors.
The agency warned drivers against attempting to cross railway tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion, stressing that disregarding railway safety rules could lead to serious consequences.
Motorists were also advised to obey traffic instructions and ensure railway crossings are safe before proceeding.
The incident has again drawn attention to the dangers of collisions between trains and road vehicles, particularly at points where roads intersect with railway lines.
While the driver’s survival prevented a reported loss of life in this case, the extensive damage to the vehicle highlights the potential consequences of such collisions.
Authorities are expected to continue investigating the incident as LASTMA renews its call for road users to prioritise safety around railway crossings.
