Manchester United’s teenage sensation JJ Gabriel is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about young players in English football, with the 15-year-old forward tipped to make history at Old Trafford.
Gabriel, whose full name is Joseph Junior Andreou Gabriel, has risen rapidly through Manchester United’s academy and is already attracting attention because of his technical ability, confidence and goalscoring record.
The youngster joined Manchester United at the age of 11 after developing through several youth academies in London. He became widely known online as “Kid Messi” because of videos showing his impressive dribbling, close control and ability to beat defenders.
His progress at United has been remarkable. In April 2025, Gabriel became the youngest player to appear for Manchester United’s Under-18 side, scoring twice on his debut in a 13–1 victory over Leeds United.
He continued to impress during the 2025/26 campaign, scoring heavily for the Under-18s and earning opportunities to train with the senior squad. Reports indicate that he scored 26 goals in 29 appearances last season and was named the U18 Premier League Player of the Season.
Gabriel has now stepped up to Premier League 2 level and has made an impressive start, registering two goals and two assists in his opening two matches for the Under-21s this season.
His performances have also caught the attention of Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, who believes the teenager should continue developing at Old Trafford rather than being sent out on loan.
The biggest talking point, however, is whether Gabriel could become Manchester United’s youngest-ever first-team player.
That record currently belongs to David Gaskell, who made his United debut at 16 years and 19 days during the 1956 Charity Shield. Gabriel will turn 16 in October, meaning he has a chance to break the long-standing record if he makes his senior debut soon after his birthday.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has also been monitoring Gabriel's progress, although the club is expected to remain cautious with the youngster given his age and physical development.
For now, Gabriel remains one of the most exciting prospects in the Manchester United academy. His development will be closely watched by supporters who are already dreaming of seeing another academy graduate become a first-team star at Old Trafford.
If he continues progressing at his current rate, JJ Gabriel could soon move from being a highly-rated academy prospect to one of the youngest players ever to represent Manchester United at senior level.
