Nigerian comedian and content creator Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has opened up about a difficult period in his life when overwhelming debts and financial hardship left him struggling and close to giving up.

The entertainer shared the revelation in an emotional statement online, reflecting on the support he received from close friends, colleagues and prominent personalities during what he described as one of the hardest periods of his life.

Mr Macaroni said he had become accustomed to giving to others while finding it difficult to ask for assistance himself because people often assumed that he was financially comfortable.

According to him, even when he borrowed money from people, he made efforts to repay them with interest without being asked, but the challenges he faced in recent years eventually forced him to seek help from people around him.

He disclosed that he reached a point where he was asking for assistance “everywhere and anywhere” he could think of as his financial difficulties became increasingly overwhelming.

The comedian said a major turning point came when an anonymous benefactor stepped in and settled all the debts he had accumulated, describing the intervention as something he could only attribute to divine help.

Mr Macaroni said the individual repeatedly supported him and asked that the person’s identity remain undisclosed because revealing the name would upset the benefactor.

He expressed deep gratitude to the anonymous supporter for giving him hope at a time when he felt that everything was coming to an end, adding that he would continue to appreciate the person privately and publicly.

The content creator also thanked his close friends for remaining with him during the difficult period and for supporting him despite having reasons to distance themselves.

Among the people he specifically acknowledged was music executive and Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy, whom he said had supported him consistently since his university days.

Mr Macaroni also expressed gratitude to Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen and Pastor Bolaji for what he described as their unwavering support and intervention during his struggles.

He said the experience had changed his perspective on life, particularly because he had spent considerable time thinking about what he had lost instead of appreciating the people and circumstances that helped him survive the difficult period.

The comedian said he was now in a better place and was focusing on learning from his experiences while pursuing activities that make him happy.

Mr Macaroni also said he did not regret the things he had done to improve other people’s lives, even though the difficult years had taught him important lessons about relationships, support and personal resilience.

He described the trials he experienced as painful but said they ultimately gave him greater clarity about life and the people around him.

The entertainer's comments also highlighted a lesser-known part of his journey before he became one of Nigeria's most recognisable digital entertainers.

Mr Macaroni initially pursued acting through traditional Nollywood productions and stage plays before turning increasingly to social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter, now known as X, to build his comedy career.

His breakout character, an exaggerated and expressive older-man persona often associated with the catchphrase “Freaky Freaky,” helped him gain a large following and establish himself within Nigeria's rapidly expanding digital entertainment industry.

Beyond comedy, he has also become known for participating in civic conversations and using his public platform to comment on social and political issues, including his involvement during the EndSARS protests.

His latest reflection focuses less on his public career and more on the personal challenges that preceded his current position, particularly the difficulty of receiving help after years of being perceived as someone who could provide it.

Mr Macaroni concluded his message by expressing gratitude to the people who stood by him and urging a greater emphasis on love and kindness, saying he hoped the love in people's hearts would remain greater than the hate in the world.
