MultiChoice Completes Canal+ Integration, CEO Unveils Vision for Global Media Expansion

2 min read

MultiChoice has officially become a full subsidiary of the Canal+ Group, marking the completion of its integration into one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies.

The development ushers in a new phase for the pay television giant, which serves millions of subscribers across Africa through brands such as DStv, GOtv and Showmax.

The announcement was made by David Mignot, Chief Executive Officer of Canal+ Africa and MultiChoice, who said the integration positions the company within a truly international media organisation operating in about 70 countries with a strong footprint across Africa.

According to Mignot, the combined organisation brings together Canal+'s global expertise and MultiChoice's extensive African operations, creating a stronger platform for investment in local content, technology, sports broadcasting and digital entertainment.

He noted that the merger is expected to strengthen the group's long-term competitiveness in an increasingly evolving global media industry.

The Canal+ Group was founded in France and is listed on the London Stock Exchange and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, while maintaining operations in more than 45 African countries.

The integration significantly expands MultiChoice's access to international resources, strategic partnerships and broader distribution networks.

Industry analysts believe the transaction could accelerate investments in premium African productions, multilingual programming and streaming services as competition intensifies among global entertainment platforms.

The combined group is also expected to leverage its wider international presence to strengthen content acquisition and distribution.

For subscribers, the integration is expected to enhance the company's ability to deliver more diverse entertainment offerings while expanding investments in original African content.

However, the company has not announced any immediate changes to existing DStv, GOtv or Showmax subscription packages as a result of the integration.

MultiChoice has grown into one of Africa's largest media companies since its establishment, providing satellite television, digital terrestrial television and streaming services across the continent.

Its portfolio includes globally recognised brands such as SuperSport, M-Net, DStv, GOtv and Showmax, making it one of the continent's most influential entertainment providers.

The successful integration reflects Canal+'s broader strategy of expanding its presence in Africa, where demand for digital entertainment, live sports and locally produced content continues to grow.

Company executives say the new structure will enable the organisation to better compete in the global media landscape while maintaining a strong commitment to African audiences.
