The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has expanded its role in ongoing rescue efforts for teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State by deploying surveillance aircraft to assist security operations.
The development was disclosed during a courtesy visit by representatives of the Chief of the Air Staff and senior Air Force officials to Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan.
According to the NAF, aerial intelligence and surveillance assets are currently supporting ground operations aimed at locating the victims and gathering information that could aid rescue efforts.
The abduction, which has triggered widespread concern across Oyo State and beyond, has drawn the attention of both state and federal authorities, with security agencies intensifying efforts to secure the safe return of those in captivity.
Governor Makinde expressed appreciation for the military's support and reaffirmed the state's commitment to working closely with security agencies to tackle criminal activities and improve public safety.
Security experts note that the deployment of surveillance aircraft could significantly improve intelligence gathering in difficult terrains often exploited by kidnappers.
The operation highlights the increasing use of technology and coordinated security responses in addressing kidnapping and insecurity across Nigeria.
