The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has said the party is willing to engage in discussions with other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dickson stated that while the NDC remains open to coalition talks, the party hopes that any eventual alliance will support candidates presented by the NDC.
According to him, opposition parties must focus on building a credible and united platform capable of offering Nigerians a strong alternative in the next electoral cycle.
He noted that coalition politics has become an important feature of democratic systems, especially where opposition parties seek to consolidate their strengths.
The former Bayelsa State governor stressed that dialogue, mutual respect and shared national interest should guide any negotiation among political parties.
Dickson also urged opposition leaders to prioritise the welfare of Nigerians above personal ambitions, insisting that cooperation should be driven by the desire to strengthen democracy and improve governance.
Political observers say discussions around possible alliances are expected to intensify as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Several opposition parties have already begun consultations aimed at forming broader political partnerships capable of challenging the ruling party in future elections.
Whether those talks eventually produce a united opposition front remains one of the major political questions ahead of the 2027 polls.
