NYSC Warns: Graduates Without NERDC Clearance Will Not Be Mobilised for National Service
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members who do not obtain the required Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) clearance will not be mobilised for the mandatory one-year national service.
The scheme said the directive is part of efforts to strengthen the integrity of its mobilisation process and ensure that only graduates with verified academic credentials are eligible to participate in the programme.
According to the NYSC, all graduates must have their academic records properly verified and cleared before they can be considered for mobilisation. The scheme explained that tertiary institutions play a crucial role in the process by submitting accurate and authentic records of eligible graduates to the relevant authorities.
It stressed that institutions are responsible for ensuring that the details of their graduates are correct before forwarding them for mobilisation, adding that any discrepancies could result in delays or outright disqualification.
The NYSC also advised prospective corps members to take proactive steps by confirming that their names, academic records, and other personal details have been correctly uploaded by their institutions. Graduates were urged to regularly monitor their mobilisation status and complete all verification requirements well ahead of the mobilisation exercise.
The scheme noted that failure to comply with the verification process could prevent otherwise eligible graduates from participating in the national service programme, regardless of when they completed their studies.
Education stakeholders say the directive is aimed at reducing cases of fraudulent academic records, improving transparency, and ensuring that only qualified graduates are enlisted into the scheme.
The NYSC reiterated that the mobilisation process depends on the accuracy of information submitted by higher institutions, urging university managements, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other accredited institutions to cooperate fully by providing verified records promptly.
For prospective corps members, the scheme advised maintaining close communication with their institutions' student affairs or mobilisation officers to resolve any issues relating to academic verification before the mobilisation timetable is released.
The development comes as the NYSC continues to digitise and strengthen its mobilisation procedures to improve efficiency, reduce administrative errors, and protect the credibility of the national service programme.
The scheme further encouraged graduates to avoid relying on unofficial information circulating on social media and instead obtain updates directly from their institutions and official NYSC communication channels.
As preparations for future mobilisation batches continue, the NYSC maintained that only graduates with duly verified academic credentials and completed clearance processes will be eligible for deployment, urging all stakeholders to comply with the directive to ensure a smooth mobilisation exercise.
