One person has died while three others sustained serious injuries after a Lexus Jeep 350 crashed along the Lagos Coastal Road, inward Eko Hotel, Lagos.

The fatal accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 2, 2026, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The vehicle, identified as a grey Lexus Jeep 350 with registration number LSD 554 KV, reportedly lost control before colliding violently with a roadside pole and overturning.

Preliminary information from LASTMA indicated that the crash resulted in three seriously injured victims and one fatality. The exact circumstances that led to the driver losing control were not immediately disclosed.

LASTMA operatives monitoring traffic around the Coastal Road axis quickly moved to the scene after the incident. The officials secured the affected section of the road and coordinated emergency response efforts.

The three injured victims were reportedly trapped in the damaged vehicle and were rescued with the assistance of Good Samaritans. They were subsequently taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for urgent medical attention.

Security personnel from Victoria Island also provided reinforcement at the scene, while LASTMA officials worked to remove the badly damaged vehicle from the carriageway.

The removal of the wreckage was necessary to prevent a secondary accident and restore normal movement along the busy Lagos road.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise greater caution when using the state's roads.

Bakare-Oki particularly warned against excessive speed, reckless driving and situations that could lead to a loss of vehicular control, noting that such behaviour can have serious consequences for motorists and other road users.

The accident has once again drawn attention to road safety in Lagos, particularly on major routes where high traffic volumes and speed can increase the risk of serious crashes.

LASTMA also urged motorists and members of the public to promptly report road crashes, vehicle breakdowns, obstructions and other emergencies through its toll-free short code, 3367, to enable a faster response.

Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
