Identical Nigerian twins Hussaini and Hassan Malami have turned an unlikely recruitment story into a remarkable career milestone after both secured jobs with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
The brothers are members of the NNPC Tigers Class of 2026, joining the company after successfully navigating a competitive recruitment process.
Their journey was made more remarkable by Hassan's initial reluctance to apply because he believed NNPC recruited only one person from the same family.
Hassan, who was already working in the banking sector and had ambitions of joining the Nigerian Air Force, initially did not want to jeopardise his twin brother's opportunity.
Hussaini, who had long aspired to work with NNPC, encouraged his brother to reconsider and apply before the recruitment deadline.
After repeated persuasion, Hassan eventually submitted his application, setting the stage for an outcome neither brother expected.
The twins subsequently sat for the computer-based recruitment examination on the same day, although they took the test at different locations.
While Hussaini completed his examination in Sokoto, Hassan sat for his in Kaduna.
Their applications then progressed through the subsequent stages of the recruitment process, including interviews.
The biggest surprise came when both brothers received employment offers on the same day.
Hussaini discovered his offer after midnight and was so excited that he wanted to wake up the entire family immediately to share the news.
Hassan, meanwhile, learnt that he had also been successful after seeing the news shared in the family WhatsApp group when he woke up.
The moment reportedly brought mixed emotions for Hassan, who had initially worried that he might not be successful after encouraging himself to apply.
His eventual success meant that both brothers would begin new professional chapters within the same organisation.
Hussaini has joined NNPC Exploration & Production Limited, while Hassan has taken up a position with NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company.
