The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, has appealed to medical practitioners, private hospitals, traditional bone setters, and other healthcare providers to promptly notify law enforcement authorities whenever individuals present suspicious gunshot wounds or unusual injuries.
The appeal followed what police described as a major breakthrough in recent criminal investigations, including the release of a former minister's sister and her children.
According to the police commissioner, healthcare providers occupy a strategic position in the fight against crime because suspects often seek medical attention after violent encounters.
He stressed that timely reporting could assist security agencies in identifying criminal networks, preventing further attacks, and ensuring perpetrators are brought to justice.
Authorities warned that failure to report suspicious cases could hinder investigations and undermine efforts to improve public safety across the state.
The police command reiterated its commitment to working with healthcare professionals and community stakeholders to strengthen intelligence gathering and crime prevention.
