The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned what it described as an escalating wave of politically motivated violence, arbitrary arrests, and systemic harassment directed at opposition leaders and party members in Ebonyi State.

Rising from an emergency national consultative meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the forum expressed grave concern over the safety of democratic institutions, civil liberties, and political actors in the state.

Reading the joint resolution on behalf of the body, the Chairman of the Forum and PDP Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chairman, Sunday Zakka, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to urgently intervene and prevent Ebonyi State from sliding into full-scale political anarchy.

The forum alleged that local security outfits and political actors aligned with the state government are being routinely deployed to intimidate PDP members, disrupt opposition gatherings, and suppress critical political commentary.

Alleged arbitrary arrests and prolonged detentions without trial targeting key PDP figures across Ebonyi's 13 Local Government Areas. Recent incidents of armed attacks and physical disruption aimed at opposition operational offices and community outreach centers. Restrictions placed on opposition political rallies, town halls, and peaceful public assemblies under the pretext of local security clearances.

Addressing federal security authorities, the PDP Chairmen Forum urged police commands and intelligence agencies in Ebonyi State to remain strictly neutral and professional in enforcing public order.

The unconditional release or formal court arraignment of all opposition members currently held under security detentions. Independent monitoring by federal security agencies to protect opposition activities, media workers, and civil society actors across the state. The establishment of an independent panel of inquiry to investigate reported acts of political violence and bring perpetrators to justice, regardless of their political affiliations.

The forum reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Ebonyi State PDP executive committee and pledged to lodge formal petitions with international human rights bodies, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and foreign diplomatic missions if the alleged harassment persists.

As of press time, the Ebonyi State Government and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Abakaliki have not issued an official response to the forum's allegations.
