The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested suspected members of a cult group and recovered weapons during an operation aimed at disrupting cult-related activities and other criminal activities in the state.
The latest arrests form part of intensified security operations by the police as authorities continue efforts to prevent cult-related violence and maintain public safety across Ekiti State.
According to reports, the police operation was carried out following intelligence received by security operatives concerning the activities of suspected cult members. The arrests were made as officers continued to monitor areas considered vulnerable to criminal activities.
The Daily Post report stated that three suspects were arrested over allegations including unlawful possession of firearms, cultism and belonging to an unlawful society.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of weapons from the suspects. The police said the items recovered formed part of the evidence being examined as investigations continue.
The development follows a separate recent operation in Efon-Alaaye, where the Ekiti State Police Command arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of belonging to a cult group and recovered a locally made firearm. Police said the suspect was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on August 7 following credible intelligence.
These operations highlight the command's continued focus on intelligence-led policing as security agencies work to prevent cult groups from establishing or expanding their activities within communities.
The suspects remain under investigation as the police work to establish their alleged roles, identify possible associates and determine whether they are connected to other criminal activities.
Police authorities have consistently urged residents to provide credible information that can assist security agencies in identifying criminal networks and preventing attacks before they occur.
The latest arrests also come amid wider efforts by police commands across Nigeria to tackle cultism, armed violence and other forms of organised crime. Recent operations in other states have similarly resulted in arrests and the recovery of firearms and dangerous weapons.
