President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria will not surrender to terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, or any form of criminal intimidation threatening national peace and stability.
The President made the statement during the 2026 Democracy Day Church Service held in Abuja, where he addressed concerns over security challenges facing several parts of the country. He emphasized that his administration remains committed to restoring peace and strengthening the nation’s security architecture.
According to the President, the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to combat criminal activities while providing security agencies with additional resources, intelligence support, and operational tools necessary to carry out their duties effectively.
Tinubu also assured Nigerians that the government would continue working to secure the release of citizens held captive by criminal groups and improve security conditions nationwide.
Beyond security matters, the President acknowledged the economic and social challenges affecting many Nigerians. He appealed to citizens, particularly young people, to remain peaceful and avoid involvement in violence, misinformation, ethnic division, and political thuggery as political activities begin to increase ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The President stressed the importance of national unity, responsible citizenship, and collective efforts to build a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
The remarks were delivered during the 2026 Democracy Day Church Service in Abuja, Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory.
Security remains one of Nigeria’s most important national priorities. A safer environment can encourage investment, support economic growth, improve education, boost agricultural activities, and create better opportunities for businesses and families.
The President’s commitment signals continued efforts to strengthen security institutions and address challenges affecting communities in different parts of the country.
Improved security can also help attract local and foreign investment, support job creation, and improve overall quality of life for citizens.
“Nigeria will never bow to terrorists, bandits, or criminal intimidation. We will continue to strengthen our security operations, support our security agencies, and work tirelessly to protect the lives and property of Nigerians,” said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Democracy Day is celebrated annually in Nigeria to commemorate the nation’s democratic journey and recognize the sacrifices made in strengthening democratic governance.
Security has remained a major focus of government policy, with ongoing investments in intelligence gathering, military operations, law enforcement capacity, and community engagement initiatives.
Experts note that sustained collaboration between government institutions, security agencies, traditional rulers, community groups, and citizens will be critical to achieving long-term security improvements.
The President’s call for peaceful political participation also comes at a time when stakeholders are encouraging issue-based engagement ahead of the next election cycle.
