The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the deployment of eight Commissioners of Police (CPs) to various state commands and appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Auwal Musa Mohammed as the new Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
The commission said the latest postings followed the recent promotion of several Commissioners of Police and were intended to address operational needs across the Nigeria Police Force.
According to a statement issued by the PSC, the changes form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership, improve operational efficiency and enhance policing nationwide.
Before his new appointment, AIG Auwal Musa Mohammed had served in several strategic positions within the Nigeria Police Force and brings more than three decades of policing experience to the Nigeria Police Academy.The commission expressed confidence that his experience would further strengthen officer training, leadership development and professional standards at the academy.
The eight newly deployed Commissioners of Police were assigned to different state commands to replace officers recently elevated or transferred as part of the police leadership restructuring.
Among the affected senior officers are experienced administrators who previously served in key departments, including Administration, Training and Development, the Force Criminal Investigation Department, the Force Intelligence Department and INTERPOL.
The PSC noted that the redeployments were carefully considered to ensure continuity of policing operations while improving command effectiveness across the affected states.The commission's Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), urged the newly deployed officers to uphold professionalism, impartiality and respect for the rule of law in carrying out their responsibilities.
He reminded the officers that effective policing depends on discipline, accountability and the trust of the communities they serve.
Argungu also encouraged the Commissioners of Police to work closely with residents, traditional institutions, community leaders and other security agencies to tackle insecurity in their respective commands.
The PSC stressed that the officers must remain politically neutral while discharging their constitutional responsibilities and avoid actions capable of undermining public confidence in the police.
The Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil remains the country's premier institution for training police cadets and developing future officers through academic and professional programmes.
The appointment of a new commandant is expected to strengthen the academy's role in producing well-trained officers equipped to address evolving security challenges across Nigeria.
Observers say the latest reshuffle reflects the commission's commitment to placing experienced officers in strategic positions where they can improve operational effectiveness and leadership within the police force.
