Former Imo State Governor and Senator, Rochas Okorocha, was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Monday night at the REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja.

The Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the development to Channels Television, disclosing that the former governor was subsequently released on administrative bail following approximately an hour of interrogation.

According to CSP Iniedu, law enforcement officers moved in after the former senator repeatedly failed to honor official police invitations regarding an ongoing criminal investigation.

Investigators initially extended an invitation to the former governor to report at the Force Headquarters on September 2, 2026. However, the meeting was rescheduled to September 8 following a formal request by Okorocha's legal team—an appointment he subsequently failed to attend, prompting police operatives to execute his arrest.

Following his arrest in central Abuja, Okorocha was transported under security escort to the Force Headquarters for questioning.

After answering preliminary questions from senior detectives during the one-hour session, the politician was granted administrative bail. However, the police spokesperson emphasized that the release is conditional, with Okorocha instructed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further interrogation as detectives deepen their investigation into the forgery and impersonation allegations.

The police hierarchy has yet to release specific details regarding the exact documents or incidents tied to the forgery and criminal conspiracy charges, maintaining that further disclosures will be made as the investigation progresses.
