The Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) has intensified political mobilisation efforts ahead of upcoming elections after openly endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for re-election.

Leaders of the political support group gathered in Ado Ekiti for the launch of SWAGA 2.0, where they declared strong backing for both leaders ahead of the Ekiti governorship election and the

2027 presidential contest.

The event attracted prominent political figures, including Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Adeoye Aribasoye, former Governor Segun Oni, and other political stakeholders from across the South-West.

SWAGA National Leader and Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, said the renewed mobilisation drive was primarily designed to strengthen support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition while also securing victory for Governor Oyebanji in the forthcoming Ekiti governorship election.

According to him, the support group intends to focus first on ensuring Oyebanji’s re-election before expanding nationwide mobilisation efforts for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.

“With the launch of SWAGA 2.0, we are strengthening our campaign efforts,” Adeyeye reportedly stated during the event.

The Ekiti governorship election is expected to hold in June 2026, while Nigeria’s next presidential election is scheduled for January 2027.

SWAGA Convener and Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, Oyetunde Ojo, also defended Tinubu’s administration, insisting that the President’s economic reforms were already laying the foundation for long-term national growth and stability.

Ojo stated that SWAGA was originally established based on confidence in Tinubu’s leadership capacity and argued that recent reforms justified continuity in government.

He urged voters in Ekiti State to support Oyebanji’s re-election bid, describing the governor as a committed leader focused on development and political stability within the state.

Governor Oyebanji, while addressing supporters, reportedly declared that there was “no credible alternative” to President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, citing infrastructure development and economic reforms introduced by the current administration.

The endorsement comes amid increasing political activities across Nigeria as major political actors begin early positioning ahead of the next election cycle.

Within the APC, support groups, governors, and stakeholders have intensified consultations and endorsements aimed at consolidating support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

The ruling party recently waived presidential screening requirements for Tinubu ahead of the APC primaries, describing the move as consistent with party procedures and internal constitutional powers.

Political observers say the growing endorsements reflect ongoing efforts by APC stakeholders to present a united front ahead of 2027 while also securing strategic state victories before the national elections.

Analysts also believe Ekiti State remains politically significant to the ruling party due to its influence within the South-West political structure.

The launch of SWAGA 2.0 further highlights the increasing role of political support groups in shaping Nigeria’s electoral landscape through grassroots mobilisation and alliance building.

As preparations for both the Ekiti governorship election and the 2027 presidential race continue, more endorsements, coalition moves, and political campaigns are expected to emerge across the country in the coming months.
