Thousands of indigenes from Yewa and Awori communities in Ogun West Senatorial District have publicly endorsed the governorship ambition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

The endorsement was made during a large gathering held at Tetede Hall in Ilaro, where community leaders, youth groups and party supporters pledged their support for his candidacy.

Speaking on behalf of the Believe Movement, a socio-political group from Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, Chief Akinbami Lukman said members resolved to support Adebutu because they believed his emergence would advance the interests of Ogun State and strengthen the quest for equitable political representation.

Another youth-based organisation, Door-to-Door Foot Soldiers, also declared its backing for the PDP candidate.

Its leader, Jimoh Azeez, said young voters had become more politically aware and would use their votes in the 2027 election to determine the state's future leadership.

Representatives of Awori communities also endorsed Adebutu, stressing that their decision was based on their assessment of his leadership qualities rather than political party affiliation.

They described him as a candidate capable of protecting the dignity and interests of Ogun State if elected governor.

Responding to the endorsements, Adebutu expressed appreciation for what he described as the overwhelming show of confidence by the people of Yewaland.

He said he was humbled by the support and pledged to pursue inclusive governance that would ensure fairness and development across all parts of Ogun State.

The former House of Representatives member also emphasised the importance of unity among the people of Ogun West, assuring supporters that their trust would inspire him to remain committed to policies aimed at improving infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic opportunities if elected.

The endorsement comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

Various interest groups and political stakeholders have begun aligning with preferred aspirants as parties intensify consultations and grassroots mobilisation across the state.

Political observers believe the support from Yewa and Awori communities could strengthen Adebutu's campaign within Ogun West, a region that has consistently advocated for greater political representation in the state's leadership.

They note that endorsements by influential community groups may shape voter mobilisation as the election approaches.

Although the endorsement represents a significant boost for the PDP candidate, the race for the Ogun governorship is expected to remain highly competitive as other political parties continue consultations and build support ahead of the official commencement of election campaigns.
