The Ogun State Police Command has announced plans to arraign three suspects before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court over the alleged assault and obstruction of police officers carrying out their lawful duties.
The suspects have been identified as 51-year-old Alaba Mulika, 21-year-old Alawode Iyanu and 29-year-old Temitope Saliu.
According to the police command, the three suspects are expected to appear before the court on Friday, where they will face allegations connected to an incident involving officers who were performing their official responsibilities.
The command said the suspects allegedly assaulted and obstructed the police officers during the course of their duties.
The development is the latest case involving alleged interference with police operations in Ogun State, as the authorities continue to warn members of the public against obstructing officers while they are carrying out lawful assignments.
Police authorities have maintained that members of the public have a responsibility to cooperate with law enforcement officers, particularly when officers are acting within the scope of their duties.
However, the allegations against the three suspects will now be tested before the court. Their arraignment is expected to provide an opportunity for the prosecution to formally present the allegations and for the defendants to respond through the judicial process.
The identities of the suspects and the allegations against them do not amount to a conviction. They remain presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court is expected to determine the next stage of the case following the arraignment.
The Ogun State Police Command has continued to emphasise the need for residents to maintain peace and cooperate with security agencies across the state. Police authorities have also urged residents to report disputes and criminal incidents through appropriate channels rather than resorting to confrontation with officers.
Cases involving alleged assault or obstruction of police officers can attract criminal proceedings where investigators establish sufficient evidence to support the allegations.
For the three suspects, Friday's court appearance is expected to mark the beginning of the formal judicial process surrounding the allegations.
Further developments in the case will depend on the proceedings before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court and any evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defence.
