President Bola Tinubu has officially approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure will expire on July 31, 2026.

The appointment, announced on Thursday, positions Aina as the incoming head of Nigeria’s foremost tertiary admissions body. At 39 years old and set to turn 40 in July, he is expected to become one of the youngest individuals ever appointed to lead JAMB.

Professor Aina is a respected academic and systems engineering expert with years of experience in examination administration, digital infrastructure, and institutional reforms within Nigeria’s education sector. He currently serves as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

According to details released by the Presidency, Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom. He also earned both a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

Reports further revealed that the incoming JAMB Registrar has over 15 years of experience working on national examination systems, ICT-driven reforms, and digital transformation projects involving education agencies and government institutions.

Aina’s appointment comes at a critical time for JAMB as the examination body continues to expand its digital operations and improve transparency in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) process.

Professor Oloyede, who was first appointed in 2016, is widely credited with reforming JAMB’s operations, improving remittance generation, and strengthening examination integrity during his tenure.

The Federal Government is expected to formally complete the transition process before Oloyede’s tenure officially ends in July 2026.
