The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied establishing a parallel presidential campaign committee for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, insisting that it remains committed to working with Governor Ademola Adeleke as the state coordinator of the President’s campaign.

The party gave the clarification on Wednesday, November 4, following reports of disagreements over the composition and purpose of a campaign structure recently unveiled by its state leadership.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC explained that the committee led by its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, was established specifically to coordinate campaigns for APC candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats.

The party said the committee, known as the Parliamentary Campaign Committee, should not be mistaken for a separate presidential campaign council.

According to the APC, there was no reason to establish another presidential campaign structure when Adeleke had already been appointed to coordinate efforts towards securing support for Tinubu in Osun State.

The party also expressed appreciation to the governor for his willingness to work with other political parties and mobilise more than 1.5 million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

“We have said it times without number that we are grateful to Governor Adeleke for his demonstrated resolve to lead the campaign for our presidential candidate and that we are ready and willing as a party to work with him,” the statement said.

The APC pointed to a rally held last Saturday at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo as evidence of its willingness to cooperate with the governor and other political stakeholders supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid.

It also urged individuals it accused of attempting to create divisions within the political alliance to desist from actions capable of generating tension and disunity.

The party maintained that Oyebamiji would continue to serve as Director-General of its parliamentary campaign organisation while also participating in efforts to promote Tinubu’s achievements.

The clarification follows controversy surrounding an earlier 168-member campaign council unveiled by the Osun APC leadership, which reportedly included responsibilities for both presidential and parliamentary elections.

Some members of the party’s State Executive Committee had questioned the composition of the initial list, arguing that it appeared inconsistent with the existing presidential campaign arrangement involving Adeleke.

The controversy also prompted concerns about the exclusion of some state executive members from the committee.

However, the APC’s latest position draws a distinction between its parliamentary campaign structure and the broader presidential campaign arrangement coordinated by Adeleke.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, the party says its priority is to work with other members of the political alliance to mobilise support for Tinubu while pursuing its own candidates in legislative elections.
