Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has approved the promotion of 3,592 civil servants following the successful completion of the 2025 promotion exercise conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission.
The approval forms part of activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu's administration, with the FCT Administration describing the decision as a demonstration of its commitment to staff welfare and career development.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, who said the exercise was successfully concluded after promotion examinations for eligible officers.
According to Ezeh, senior officers sat for their promotion examinations between July 1 and July 3, while junior officers completed theirs on July 10.
He explained that the promotions reflect the administration's determination to reward diligence and ensure that deserving officers advance in their careers without unnecessary delays.
Ezeh commended Wike for providing the support and resources that enabled the commission to carry out its statutory responsibilities smoothly throughout the promotion exercise.
He further disclosed that the minister has directed the commission to immediately commence the 2026 promotion exercise so that eligible officers can be promoted as and when due.
According to the commission chairman, the directive underscores the administration's resolve to eliminate unnecessary delays in career progression within the FCT Civil Service.
Ezeh stated that timely promotion of workers remains a priority under the current administration and complements the ongoing infrastructural transformation taking place across the Federal Capital Territory.
He added that while residents continue to witness major infrastructure projects across Abuja, civil servants should also benefit from the administration's achievements through improved welfare and professional growth.
The commission praised FCT civil servants for maintaining discipline, orderliness and professionalism throughout the 2025 promotion process.
Ezeh also appreciated the leadership of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) for its cooperation, noting that constructive engagement contributed significantly to the successful completion of the exercise.
He encouraged officers expected to participate in the 2026 exercise to begin preparations early and remain committed to excellence in service delivery.
The commission reiterated that promotions within the FCT Civil Service are merit-based, highly competitive and subject to the availability of vacancies in accordance with established public service regulations.
The latest approval follows a period of significant infrastructure commissioning across the Federal Capital Territory, during which more than 30 projects were commissioned or flagged off between June 8 and July 17, 2026, to commemorate President Tinubu's third year in office.
Observers say the promotion of thousands of civil servants reflects an effort to balance infrastructure development with improved staff motivation and institutional efficiency across the FCT Administration.
The move is also expected to boost morale within the civil service by ensuring that eligible officers receive career advancement in line with established timelines and performance requirements.
With preparations for the 2026 promotion exercise already underway, the FCT Administration says it remains committed to strengthening public service productivity while improving employee welfare under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
