Nigerian troops have repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on a military base in Adamawa State, reportedly killing six insurgents and recovering weapons and ammunition.

The attack targeted Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garaha in Hong Local Government Area, where troops operating under Sector 4 of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, successfully defended their position.

The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

According to the military, the attackers advanced on foot from the LAR axis and launched their assault at approximately 9:07 p.m., apparently seeking to overrun the military position.

However, troops responded with superior firepower and coordinated tactical action, forcing the insurgents to retreat.

A subsequent search of the area reportedly led to the discovery of six bodies, which the military said confirmed the deaths of six attackers.

The military said troops recovered a significant quantity of weapons, ammunition and other equipment following the encounter.

The recovered items included one PKT machine gun, three ammunition belts containing 67 rounds, six AK-47 rifles and 11 AK-47 magazines.

Troops also recovered 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one 60mm mortar bomb.

Other items reportedly found at the scene included an Android phone, a Canon portable video recorder, three camelback water bags, a magazine carrier and assorted clothing.

The military said the recovery formed part of efforts to assess the encounter and secure the area against further attacks.

Despite repelling the assault, troops sustained casualties during the confrontation, according to the military statement.

Goni said wounded personnel were receiving medical attention, while arrangements were being made for their evacuation where necessary. The statement did not disclose the number of soldiers affected or provide further details about their condition.

Troops have reportedly maintained heightened vigilance and continued search operations around the area to prevent another attack and recover any additional items of operational importance.

The military described the successful defence of the base as evidence of the troops’ readiness and determination to protect their positions against insurgent attacks.

Operation Hadin Kai said it would continue intelligence-driven operations aimed at restricting the movement of terrorist groups, protecting vulnerable communities and reducing their capacity to launch further attacks across Nigeria’s North-East.

The latest incident highlights the continuing security challenges facing Adamawa and other states in the region, where military operations remain focused on countering Boko Haram and ISWAP activities.

While the military has reported the deaths of six attackers, further details about the casualties sustained by government forces were not immediately provided in the statement.
