Trump, Tinubu Confirm Killing of Top ISIS Leader in Major Borno Military Operation
Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria — United States President Donald Trump and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have confirmed the killing of a top ISIS commander, identified as Abu Khadijah al-Minuki, during a joint counterterrorism operation in Nigeria’s troubled North-East region.
Trump announced the development on his Truth Social platform, describing the mission as a “flawlessly executed operation” that successfully eliminated one of the world’s most dangerous terrorists.
According to Trump, al-Minuki was the “most active terrorist globally,” overseeing ISIS operations across multiple regions including media propaganda, weapons supply, global financing networks, and drone warfare capabilities.
The operation reportedly took place in the Lake Chad Basin area of Borno State, a long-standing hotspot for insurgent activities linked to both ISIS West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram factions.
President Tinubu also confirmed the strike, calling it a significant breakthrough in Nigeria’s ongoing war against terrorism.
In a statement released after the operation, Tinubu praised Nigerian security forces and international intelligence partners for what he described as a “daring and highly coordinated mission” that resulted in the death of al-Minuki and several of his top lieutenants.

Security intelligence reports identify al-Minuki as a Nigerian national from Borno State, believed to have been born around 1982.
