The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, has said the northern region has no reason to reject President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, made the statement while speaking about the APC’s preparations for the next presidential election and the political support Tinubu is expected to receive across the country.
According to him, the North should continue to support the President based on what he described as the administration’s efforts and policies since Tinubu assumed office.
Yari argued that political support should be based on the performance of an administration and its ability to address challenges affecting citizens.
President Tinubu, who came to power in May 2023, has introduced several major economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange system.
The reforms have attracted both support and criticism. While the Federal Government has maintained that the measures are necessary to strengthen the economy and attract investment, Nigerians have also faced increased living costs and economic pressures.
Yari’s comments come as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC has been positioning itself for the next election, with party leaders and supporters highlighting the administration’s economic policies, infrastructure projects and investment initiatives as reasons for voters to support Tinubu.
The North remains politically important to the outcome of any presidential election in Nigeria because of its large voting population and number of states.
